Oil Palm Expansion in Papua, Indonesia

A film I made with the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) and Telapak in Indonesia. Most of the footage was shot on a Sony A1 HDV camcorder in 2009. I chose to shoot on a small dv camera as the Indonesian government bans journalists from filming in Papua so thought it best not to be noticed. Edited the campaign film on Final Cut Pro when safely back in London. The film has been screened in Jakarta and Papua where tribal leaders angrily responded and vowed to spread the message to their communities. Oil palm is in everything from chocolate to soap – I try and avoid buying it but it is not that easy.
